Here’s A Surprise

Our dad really hated taking pictures of flowers. He’d rather shoot animals or birds. But his dislike of pretty plants didn’t keep him from taking hundreds of images of every kind of flower he found in fields, gardens, or backyards. He especially liked the backyard at my house. We have a big yard with lots of flowers and trees. We had a full garden bed of gorgeous day lilies – burnt orange and red. Dad was obsessed. He would call me every year as the weather warmed up, asking if the lilies were starting to bloom. He’d check in every few days or sometimes just show up with his camera, and wander around the backyard. We also had irises, daffodils, morning glories, and peonies painting a bright landscape. I think despite his distaste for shooting the blooms, he liked the challenge of catching them at their most perfect state.
